As the war between Hamas and Israel intensifies, threatening to expand beyond the immediate area, many are wondering how they can help.
At least 2,837 people have been killed in Israel and Gaza since Hamas militants stormed into nearby Israeli towns from the Gaza corridor on October 7. Another 10,000 people were injured, including more than 2,100 children, according to a UNICEF statement on Friday.
The situation looked set to worsen, with Israel retaliating on Friday by ordering more than 1 million Gaza residents to evacuate their homes within 24 hours – a move the United Nations said was impossible.
“Due to continued airstrikes and border closures, civilians have no safe place to go,” the World Health Organization said of Gaza citizens, about half of whom are children and adolescents, in a statement on Friday.
“Hundreds of children have been killed or injured,” UNICEF spokesman James Elder told a news conference at the Palais des Nations in Geneva on Friday. “In Gaza, the number of children being killed is increasing every hour. . The killing of children must stop.”

The World Health Organization said medical supplies shipped at Egypt’s Rafah crossing, the only possible entry into Gaza, had yet to arrive because the crossing had been closed due to repeated attacks by Israeli forces.
Meanwhile, UNICEF said on Friday it and partners were already delivering aid on the ground in Gaza, including medical supplies, fuel and mental health support.

International Committee of the Red Cross: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a humanitarian organization dedicated to helping people affected by conflict around the world. Its mission stems from the 1949 Geneva Conventions. It works with Red Cross and Red Crescent chapters around the world, and its neutral staff visit detainees in both countries, Israel and Palestine. The organization is also said to have helped improve access to necessities such as water and electricity.

Israel: Headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel, this global NGO’s mission is to support people affected by crises such as natural disasters, post-conflict situations and epidemics. The organization said it is providing housing for evacuees from Gaza, operating child-friendly spaces where children can play and process problems, and distributing recovery kits to families, among other things.

save the child: The NGO, founded after World War I, says it stands ready to protect and assist children in Gaza and Israel. It is working with the United Nations in hopes of renegotiating humanitarian corridors and has been assisting Palestinian children affected by the conflict since 1953.

unicef: The organization is the abbreviation of UNICEF. It was established by the United Nations after World War II and is committed to improving the lives of children in more than 190 countries and regions. The organization said in a news release on Friday that it had staff providing support in Gaza.

RNWA: The United Nations Relief and Work Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East was established by the United Nations after the Arab-Israeli War in 1949. Its mission is to implement direct relief programs for Palestine refugees. The organization says nearly 6 million people are eligible for its services. The group operates in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. According to reports, more than 270,000 refugees have stayed in its shelters since October 7.
