A Report Citing industry sources, DigiTimes said Apple is developing a low-cost MacBook series to compete with Chromebook models in the education sector, which could be released as early as the second half of 2024. The so-called MacBook series is expected to use the familiar metal sleeve. However, the upcoming model may differ from the current MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, with cheaper materials and components to keep the price down.
Right now, Windows laptops and Chromebooks are very popular among students and education. According to the report, more than 13.9 million Chromebooks were shipped in 2019 and more than 30.4 million in 2020. In 2021, more than 33.5 million Chromebooks will be shipped. Apple may be targeting the Chromebook market and is expected to keep the price of its upcoming MacBook laptop under $1,000 (roughly Rs. 80,000).
However, Apple has not disclosed plans to launch affordable MacBook models. Therefore, this information should be taken with a grain of salt.
