Apple Watch Ultra 2 was released earlier this month alongside the iPhone 15 series of smartphones. The company’s latest high-end smartwatch features some hardware upgrades over last year’s Apple Watch Ultra, which was the company’s first smartwatch with a 49mm display and titanium body. These include the new processor also found on Apple Watch Series 9 models. Wearers can also control the smartwatch through double-tap gestures, a new feature introduced on this year’s model.
The company’s new Apple Watch Ultra 2 was launched in global markets and India on September 22, while the first-generation Apple Watch Ultra is no longer listed on Apple’s website a year after its launch. Apple Watch Ultra 2 price in India is Rs. 89,900 and the wearable device can be purchased through the company’s website, official Apple stores in Mumbai and Delhi, and authorized resellers in the country. Like its predecessor, this smartwatch is available in natural titanium color.
On the other hand, the first generation Apple Watch Ultra was also launched in India and is priced at Rs. It was 89,900 last year and is not yet listed on Apple’s website. However, it is priced at Rs. Rs 84,990 on Amazon. 79,900 via Croma.
The prices of both wearables are also likely to get reduced during the upcoming Amazon Great Indian Day sale and Flipkart’s Big Billion Days sale.
Apple Watch Ultra 2 vs. Apple Watch Ultra: Specs
Both Apple Watch Ultra 2 and the first-generation Apple Watch Ultra feature a 1.91-inch Retina LTPO OLED display with always-on mode, 502×410 pixel resolution, and 338ppi pixel density. However, the Apple Watch Ultra 2’s panel has a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, compared to last year’s model’s 2,000 nits.
The company’s new Apple S9 SiP powers the Apple Watch Ultra 2, which represents the company’s biggest chip upgrade to the watch in several years. The previous model featured the Apple S8 SiP, a similar processor found on the Apple Watch Series 7 and Apple Watch Series 6. Both smartwatches are compatible with watchOS 10 – the latest operating system the Apple Watch Ultra 2 runs on – out of the box.
Both models feature the same sensors, including accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer, compass, altimeter, and depth gauge. Health monitoring sensors on smart watches include heart rate sensors, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) monitors, maximum oxygen uptake (VO2Max) sensors, and temperature sensors. Apple Watch Ultra 2 is equipped with a new Ultra-Wideband 2 chip, which provides improved tracking compared to last year’s model.
Connectivity options for Apple Watch Ultra 2 and the first-generation Apple Watch Ultra include dual-band Wi-Fi, LTE, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and GPS. They all come with non-removable batteries that can be charged wirelessly. Apple Watch Ultra 2 and last year’s Apple Watch Ultra offer 64GB and 32GB of built-in storage respectively.
