Bitcoin is a ‘super logical’ step on the tech tree: OpenAI CEO

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman calls Bitcoin (BTC) a “super logical” step on the technology tree that is both independent of government control and helps fight corruption.

“I’m excited about Bitcoin,” Altman Tell Joe Rogan on the October 6 episode Joe Rogan’s Experience podcast.

“I think the idea that we have a global currency that is not controlled by any government is a very logical and important step on the technology tree.”

The OpenAI boss conducted an extensive interview with Rogan, covering his views on Bitcoin as the world’s reserve currency and his concerns about central bank digital currencies (CBDC).

Altman, who is also the founder of WorldCoin, said the shift to a “technology-driven world” (including Bitcoin) could help reduce corruption.

“One of the things that I’ve observed, and obviously a lot of other people have observed as well, is that corruption is an incredible impediment to progress in society,” Altman said.

“But in today’s world, payments no longer look like bags of cash but are done digitally in some way, and even if you use Bitcoin, someone can observe those flows,” he said, adding:

“I think it’s like reducing corruption.”

Rogan, meanwhile, has expressed his optimism for Bitcoin despite skepticism about the broader cryptocurrency industry, saying he believes Bitcoin can become a “universally viable currency.”

“The really fascinating cryptocurrency is Bitcoin. To me, I think that’s the one that has the best chance of becoming a universally viable currency. There’s a limit to how many people can mine it with their own (computers).”

“It’s very fascinating to me. I love the implementation of it,” Rogan added.

However, Altman has been a long-time supporter of Bitcoin long before the podcast. In a blog post from 10 years ago, Altman debate The world of transactions using Bitcoin will be more transparent.

“A world where we all transact in Bitcoin is going to be much more transparent and very financially transparent. That’s probably the thing that will reduce corruption the most,” Altman said.

Rogan, Altman ‘very worried’ about CBDC, slam U.S. war on cryptocurrencies

At the same time, both Altman and Rogan said they were “super opposed” to CBDCs and expressed concerns about the United States becoming a surveillance state.

Rogan believes that a CBDC could give governments more control over how people spend their money:

“I’m very worried about central bank digital currency and its connection to social credit scores. It scares the hell out of me. The push for this is not for the benefit of society as a whole, but for control.”

Altman added that he was not impressed with the U.S. government’s recent treatment of the cryptocurrency industry:

“I’m disappointed in a lot of things the U.S. government has been doing lately, but I think the cryptocurrency war is like we can’t give up on this, like we’re going to get this under control. That’s what makes me very sad about this country. ,”He said.
