Cadillac Optiq: New entry-level EV crossover

DETROIT – Cadillac’s new entry-level electric vehicle will be a compact crossover called the Optiq, the company Friday said.

Cadillac declined to reveal pricing and other details for the 2025 Optiq, which is expected to go on sale in the U.S. as soon as next year. The vehicle is expected to be sold in North America, China, Europe and other potential markets.

A Cadillac spokesman confirmed on Friday that the brand still plans to offer exclusively electric vehicles in 2030 despite lower-than-expected demand for its vehicles. Cadillac originally announced this goal a few years ago. Parent company General Motors subsequently set a goal of offering exclusively electric vehicles by 2035.

Cadillac’s first electric car is the Lyriq, followed by a customized Celestiq sedan worth more than $300,000, and the upcoming all-electric Escalade SUV, which starts at about $130,000.

General Motors, which includes Cadillac, has been far slower than expected in launching and producing electric vehicles as it grapples with supply chain issues and increasing domestic battery production.
