DETROIT — Chrysler parent company star Canada is currently facing a nationwide labor strike.

canadian union Unifor calls for nationwide strike More than 8,200 autoworkers gathered in the early hours of Monday after the two sides failed to reach a new deal by 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

Two days ago, Stellantis reached a tentative agreement with the UAW to serve approximately 43,000 U.S. autoworkers. Targeted strikes began on September 16 for approximately six weeks.

A new strike in Ontario, Canada, affects two large assembly plants that make the Chrysler 300 sedan and Pacifica minivan as well as the Dodge Challenger and Charger muscle cars.

The latter vehicle, produced at Stellantis’ Brampton Assembly Plant, is particularly notable because the company is producing the last traditional V-8 version of the Dodge muscle car before it is discontinued at the end of the year.

The Canadian shutdown comes nearly three weeks after Unifor launched a roughly 12-hour nationwide strike. General Motors The two sides failed to reach a tentative agreement by the deadline set by the union.

Unifor represents 18,000 Canadian workers at the Detroit automaker and has a more traditional approach to negotiations than its U.S. counterparts. Canadian unions are negotiating with each automaker individually, using the deal first struck with Ford last month as a “model” for GM and Stellantis.

This traditional, patterned approach to bargaining runs counter to the UAW’s new strategy of bargaining with all three automakers simultaneously.

The UAW has been gradually increasing the number of strikes since the work stoppage began after the two sides failed to reach a tentative agreement by Sept. 14. Targeted or “standing” strikes are taking place, rather than nationwide strikes.

However, once the UAW reaches a tentative agreement, which still must be approved by members, Wednesday Fordwhich has used the deal as a template for proposals with Stellantis and General Motors.
