ChatGPT Traffic Falls for Third Month in a Row Amid Signs of End of Decline, Data Shows

OpenAI’s ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot launched in November, saw monthly website visits fall for the third straight month in August, but there are signs the decline is coming to an end, according to analytics firm Similarweb.

Global desktop and mobile site visits to the ChatGPT website fell 3.2% to 1.43 billion in August, after falling about 10% in each of the previous two months. The amount of time visitors spend on the site has also declined each month since March, from an average of 8.7 minutes to 7 minutes in August.

But the number of unique visitors worldwide rose from 180 million to 180.5 million in August.

The resumption of classes in schools in September may help the traffic and usage of ChatGPT, and some schools have begun to accept it. US ChatGPT traffic rose slightly in August as US schools reopened.

“Students looking for homework help seem to be part of the story: The site’s percentage of younger users dipped over the summer, but is now rebounding,” says David F. Carr of Sametimeweb, who regularly tracks ChatGPT and its rivals. . Carr) said.

ChatGPT sparked an insane use of generative AI for everyday tasks from editing to coding, and hit 100 million monthly active users in January, two months after its launch. Generative AI techniques use past data to create new content, such as writing essays or poetry.

Before Meta’s Threads launched, it was the fastest growing consumer application of all time and is now one of the top 30 websites in the world.

A number of ChatGPT competitors launched this year, including Google’s Bard chatbot. Bing, Microsoft’s search engine, also offers a chatbot powered by OpenAI for free.

OpenAI also released a ChatGPT app on iOS in May, which may consume some traffic from its website. ChatGPT is free to use but also offers a premium subscription for $20 (approximately Rs. 1,665) per month.

Apart from ChatGPT, OpenAI is also making money by selling access to its AI models directly to developers and businesses and through a partnership with Microsoft, which has invested over $10 billion (Rs 8,315,000 crore) in the company.
