Cruise CEO and co-founder Kyle Vogt resigns from his role at the self-driving car company General Motorsaccording to a company statement sent to CNBC on Sunday.

Mo Elshenawy, who previously served as Cruise’s executive vice president of engineering, will now serve as Cruise’s president and chief technology officer, the company said.

Cruise’s resignation follows a series of missteps. The company recently issued a recall affecting 950 robotaxis after a pedestrian collision in San Francisco last month, CNBC previously reported.

As a result of that pedestrian collision, Cruise lost its license to operate self-driving cars in California without human safety drivers.

According to its latest quarterly update, GM lost about $1.9 billion on Cruise between January and September, including $732 million in the third quarter alone.
