Cyberpunk 2077 Developer Suggests PC Players Test Cooling Systems Before Phantom Liberty Launch

As Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Free expansion approaches, developer CD Projekt Red is warning PC players to test their cooling systems ahead of time. Lead scenario programmer Filip Pierściński claimed in a tweet that both the game’s paid expansion packs and the version 2.0 update are CPU-intensive, essentially squeezing every ounce of performance out of the chip. Therefore, 90% of the workload on an 8-core processor is easily expected, which may result in thermal throttling. It’s unclear what aspects of the update are causing the game to be so CPU-demanding, but past patches have mostly focused on ray tracing capabilities.

Ahead of release, developers recommend running software like Cinebench to ensure optimal cooling under heavy loads. For starters, this free app evaluates your computer’s hardware limitations by putting it under sustained stress for a period of time, and infers its stability by giving you a score. This is far from a real-world scenario, but if your computer can successfully pass the test without crashing, it should generally be able to handle anything you throw at it. In fact, comments like this caused gamers to panic, fearing that Cyberpunk 2077 might melt their CPUs, with many replying to the original tweet along with their PC specs to check firsthand whether they were in safe area.

To curb this concern, Pierściński sent out another tweet stating that Phantom Liberty and the version 2.0 update will “perform well” on any hardware specified in CD Projekt Red’s system requirements infographic. His purpose is simply to emphasize the importance of properly maintaining your computer so that when cooling issues arise, overall performance is not affected. For reference, running Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Freedom at minimum settings will require an Intel Core i7-6700 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 processor, the latter of which comes with six cores. The game has been completely revamped compared to the original version released in 2020 (which was corrupted), so it will rely on SSDs going forward.

Phantom Liberty is a paid expansion that lets you embark on a high-stakes espionage mission to save the President of the New United States of America (NUS). As part of this, we’ll team up with FIA agent Solomon Reed (Idris Elba) to break into the gated community of Dogtown and learn what his intentions are in time. The expansion releases alongside the major 2.0 patch, which overhauls the skill system and increases the maximum amount of modifications your body can handle. Although there are some consequences to your overall health, these limitations can be exceeded using technological enhancements at overdrive. It’s nothing like the cyberpsychosis seen in the Netflix anime Cyberpunk: Edge Runner, but there’s some risk-reward factor in how you build the character.

CD Projekt Red also received Night City Connection plot It is scheduled to take place on Thursday, September 14 at 8:30 pm IST / 8 am PT.The event will be broadcast live on the official website of “Cyberpunk 2077” Youtube and twitch channel And will touch on new radio stations, gameplay changes, abilities, and some character details about Reed from Idris Elba himself.
