San Francisco police told CNBC that officers responded to a hit-and-run incident at the intersection of Fifth and Market streets around 9:30 p.m. A Cruise spokesman and San Francisco police said the impact threw the pedestrian in front of the Cruise vehicle, which braked “violently” and remained in place as police requested.
Police said officers provided assistance at the scene before paramedics took the woman to hospital.

As the two vehicles crossed Market Street, the hit-and-run driver struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian did not appear to be using the marked pedestrian crossing. The woman was thrown into the hit-and-run vehicle and into the right lane of Cruise’s vehicle. The Cruise car stopped immediately. After impact. NBC Bay Area reported that the woman was trapped under the left rear axle of the vehicle, and the San Francisco Fire Department was forced to use the “mouth of life” to free her.
Emergency personnel told NBC Bay Area that the woman suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was taken to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. San Francisco police said the pedestrian’s condition was unknown.
