Eicher Partners With Amazon to Deploy Electric Trucks for Middle, Last-Mile Deliveries

VE Commercial Vehicles’ Eicher truck and bus unit said on Wednesday it has partnered with Amazon to electrify the Indian e-commerce giant’s mid- and last-mile delivery operations.

VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) said in a statement that under the partnership, the company aims to introduce up to 1,000 zero-emission electric trucks across different payload categories into Amazon’s delivery operations over the next five years, and Deploy through Amazon’s shipping service partners.

As a first step, Amazon will gradually deploy 50 Eicher electric trucks in major hubs such as Delhi, Manisar and Gurgaon over the next few months.

Vinod Aggarwal, Managing Director and CEO of VECV, said: “This partnership demonstrates our commitment to promoting smart sustainable solutions and developing a zero-emission transport ecosystem.”

Abhinav Singh, Vice President, Customer Fulfillment, Amazon Shipping Services, Global Specialty Fulfillment and Supply Chain, Amazon India said, “We remain committed and are working towards the goal of integrating 10,000 electric vehicles into our delivery fleet in India by 2025.” He further stated: “We will continue to invite innovators and solution providers in electric vehicles and sustainable mobility to join us in accelerating the decarbonization of the logistics industry.”

Eicher’s electric trucks feature advanced digital capabilities and will be built on its proven electric vehicle platform already operating in bus applications, the statement said.

Trucks with deck lengths of 8-24 feet will be equipped with custom cargo stacking configurations and will also offer fast and slow charging options to meet the needs of specific operations.

The service solution also takes into account the availability of charging infrastructure, operational requirements, charging time constraints, battery capacity, and the fleet’s overall energy management strategy.
