Elon Musk met with Italy PM Giorgia Meloni to talk AI, birth rates

Elon Musk met Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Thursday to discuss risks such as artificial intelligence and birth rates, the Italian leader said on Twitter on Thursday.

this tesla The CEO arrived in Rome on Thursday on a flight from Austin, Texas, according to an Instagram account that tracks the billionaire’s private jet.

This marks the start of what is expected to be a short European tour. Musk will travel to France on Friday to speak at the Viva Tech conference in Paris, the country’s largest tech event.

Meloni tweeted in Italian that she and Musk discussed “AI innovations, opportunities and risks, European market regulation and birth rates.”

Musk has repeatedly warned about the risks of artificial intelligence. In February, Musk said artificial intelligence was “one of the greatest risks to the future of civilization.” Musk has also in the past called a rapidly declining birth rate “one of the biggest risks facing civilization.”

European leaders are trying to convince the Tesla boss to build a new car manufacturing plant in their country as they meet with Italy’s prime minister.

French Digital Minister Jean-Noel Barrot told CNBC this week that the French government is trying to convince Musk that “France is the best place in Europe to build the next Tesla factory.”

Musk is expected to speak on Friday at the Viva Tech summit in Paris, which French President Emmanuel Macron attended this week. The Tesla boss is also expected to meet with Macron.
