Social media platform

The new subscription, called “Not A Bot,” will charge users to like, retweet or quote posts from other accounts, and bookmark posts on the web version of the platform.

X said the new subscription model was introduced to combat bots and spammers, adding that fees would vary based on exchange rates.

X said the new method will be available to users in New Zealand and the Philippines first.

Existing users are not affected during this test. However, new users who do not want to subscribe can only view and read posts, watch videos and follow accounts.

Robots have been a contentious issue for Musk, who bought the company last year. In July, X introduced restrictions on viewing tweets “to ensure the authenticity of its user base.”

Earlier this month, Reuters quoted sources as saying that X CEO Linda Yaccarino met with X’s lenders, where she said the company would make payments based on the number of ads shown to users. Testing three tiers of its subscription service.

Back in August, Musk said X would remove a protective feature that allowed users to block other accounts. The blocking feature on X allows users to restrict specific accounts from contacting them, viewing their posts, or following them. “Blocking will be removed as a ‘feature,’ except for direct messages,” Musk said in a post on the platform, referring to direct messages. He said the X will retain the mute feature, which prevents users from viewing to the specified account, but unlike blocking, it will not alert other accounts to the action.
