Ford February sales jump 10.5%, led by gains in hybrids and EVs

Detroit – Ford Motor Company’s Compared with February 2023, U.S. sales grew 10.5% last month, with sales of hybrid and fully electric vehicles increasing.

detroit automakers Monday report February car and truck sales were 174,192 units. Results include an 81% increase in electric vehicle sales and an approximately 32% increase in hybrid vehicle sales. Sales of traditional internal combustion engines also grew, with an annual increase of 7.5%.

The surge in hybrid sales is part of Ford’s plan to invest more in technology. Ford said hybrid vehicle sales totaled 12,045 units in February, including 6,463 units of the small Maverick Hybrid pickup truck.

Sales of Ford electric vehicles fluctuate from month to month based on demand and pricing. Sales of Ford’s all-electric vehicles grew across the board last month, with sales of the Mustang Mach-E crossover rising 64.3% and sales of the all-electric F-150 Lightning pickup nearly doubling.

Despite an increase in hybrids and electric vehicles, 89.5% of Ford’s February sales were conventional cars and trucks.

Sales of Ford’s lucrative F-Series pickup truck fell 5.8% last month to 51,829 units. Shipments of new 2024 pickup trucks delayed due to undisclosed quality issues, automotive news coverage last month.

Because of quality and warranty issues, Ford CEO Jim Farley instituted more rigorous testing and quality inspections during new vehicle launches.

Ford reported year-to-date sales of 311,325 vehicles through February, up 6.6% from the same period last year.

Ford shares were up about 4% during Monday morning trading.opponent General Motors and starNeither company reported monthly sales, but both grew about 1%.
