Streaming platform Excel Entertainment announced that the new film “Friday Night Project” starring Babil Khan will be available on Netflix on September 1. Netflix India shared the movie’s premiere date on its social media pages on Friday. “Two unsupervised siblings in one room… probably have the most epic #FridayNightPlan! Arriving Sept. 1, only on Netflix!” the post read. Produced by Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani and Kassim Jagmagia, the film is billed as an “unforgettable journey of love and laughter”.
“Excel Entertainment couldn’t be happier to present this heartwarming movie to the world! It’s our first high school movie, and all the fun, mischief, and growing pains that come with it. With Babil Khan ) is an exciting collaboration with a stellar cast, and we hope our labor of love reaches a wider audience through Netflix,” Akhtar and Sidvani said in a joint statement. Vatsal Neelakantan, who previously worked on Excel projects like Inside Edge and Mirzapur, now directs Friday Night Project.
In the film, Babir plays the nerdy older brother, whose sidekick is his mischievous younger brother, played by Amris Jayan. Barbier, who made his debut last year with the Netflix film “Qala,” said the Friday Night Project was a relevant theme for him. “I have a younger brother in real life, and this movie feels very close to me. It’s a heartwarming journey that reminds us of our own misadventures. Qala’s second collaboration with Netflix’ and I’m really excited to be a part of this project,” said the actor.
Nilakantan described the film as “a heartwarming story of love, friendship, brotherhood and self-discovery for all audiences”. Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, Director of Original Films, Netflix India, said that after “Mismatched” and “Class”, they are excited to bring “Friday Night Project” to the young adult audience. “We are delighted to bring together an exciting and fresh cast for this novel, a hopeful story of two brothers that is sure to resonate with audiences as it celebrates sibling love and destiny.
