According to reports, Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series users in India have started receiving the One UI 5 update based on Wear OS 4. The Watch 4 series includes Galaxy Watch 4 in 40mm and 44mm sizes, and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic models in 42mm and 46mm. In addition to new and updated widgets, the update released in the US last week also comes with the July 2023 security patch. The update also introduced NFC-based Samsung Pay feature to Indian users, but it doesn’t seem to work at all.
Located in Somerville Report Samsung has started rolling out the Wear OS 4-based One UI 5 Watch update for Galaxy Watch 4 series users in India, the company said. The update brings new watch faces and tiles, including a power tile that shows the battery level of all connected Samsung devices, a timer tile, and a tile for the Buds controller.
It appears that users can activate or deactivate 360-degree audio directly from the watch using the Galaxy Buds tile. Users can also choose to use an album as a wallpaper or background, rather than just a specific picture. The update also allows users to save backups of watch data in Samsung Cloud using the Smart Switch app. With this update, users will also be able to pair their Galaxy Watch 4 with a new phone without having to perform a factory reset.
One UI 5 Watch update generates personalized heart rate zones, enhanced sleep guidance, and cycling workout recording. The update also makes it possible to modify call volume, mute, and keyboard button presses directly from the Galaxy Watch 4. It also reportedly allows Samsung’s assistant Bixby to read notifications.
Another Sammobile report Add to The update also expands Samsung Pay functionality on the Galaxy Watch 4 series, but does not allow users to use the NFC-based “tap to pay” option. According to reports, the Samsung Pay app will appear in the smartwatch’s app drawer after installation. Users are then given tips and instructions for using the app, after which the linked smartphone prompts them to update their watch to the latest software version.
The problem is, the smartwatch has been updated to the latest software (which brought the feature to the device), so the Samsung Pay app on the Galaxy Watch 4 has become useless, stuck in a vicious cycle of updates. The report adds that the problem may stem from the recent rebranding of the payments service. Samsung has updated Samsung Pay and renamed it Samsung Wallet. Galaxy Watch with One UI 5 Watch is said to search for Samsung Pay instead of Samsung Wallet.
