GM 2025 Buick Enclave SUV upgrades and design

Warren, MI. — General Motors Buick has redesigned its flagship Enclave SUV, the latest demonstration of the automaker’s ongoing reinvention of the 125-year-old brand.

The 2025 Enclave’s updates — from new technology to exterior to interior redesigns — complete Buick’s refresh of its current four-model lineup. In 2022, Buick launched a radical concept car called Wildcat, ushering in a new design direction for the brand.

While the Enclave is the latest in Buick’s current lineup to get the Wildcat treatment, it may not be the last. General Motors expects to expand Buick’s lineup with the launch of a new all-electric vehicle as early as this year and is conducting a number of “design studies” to determine what’s next for the once-dominant American brand.

“I’m very excited about growing this brand again,” GM President Mark Reuss said during a media event at the company’s Design and Technology Park in suburban Detroit. “(This is a) truly talented company. Team, really talented execution, on a global scale.”

Royce, who began his career at Buick as a transmission calibrator, said the design team led by Bob Boniface did a great job “reinvigorating the Buick design.”

The 2025 Enclave is longer, wider and taller than the current model. It also features a more aggressive exterior design, including a larger front grille and Buick’s new “reverse tick mark” headlights.

“(It) is the flagship product of the Buick brand,” Boniface said at the media event. “We talk a lot about the visual DNA and here you can see how that translates to the largest vehicle in our range… It’s a clever use of surface language.”

The rear looks more like a truck, with lots of angles and wide taillights on the SUV.

Inside is a redesigned new interior that features a “floating” center console that is not connected to the vehicle’s front fascia. It also includes a standard 30-inch diagonal curved infotainment screen.

Super Cruise, GM’s hands-free highway driving system, will be available on three Enclave models: Preferred, ST and Avenir. Heated front seats, wireless charging and other safety and convenience features are also standard.

Because of fuel economy, GM is ditching the current V6 version of the Enclave in favor of a standard 2.5-liter turbocharged engine with 328 horsepower and 326 foot-pounds of torque.

The automaker said pricing for the 2025 Enclave will be announced when the car enters production at a plant in central Michigan. Pricing currently ranges from about $43,300 to over $60,000.

“As you can see, there’s energy, enthusiasm and passion here; people are constantly doing things, and that’s a sign of the future,” said Aldred, head of the GMC brand. “You have to watch the space and see what’s going to happen next.”

With slower-than-expected adoption of electric vehicles and changes in federal fuel emissions, General Motors is evaluating its product portfolio to better integrate hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles with electric vehicles.

In 2022, Buick announced plans to offer exclusively all-electric vehicles by 2030. (GM previously announced a goal to offer electric vehicles exclusively to consumers by 2035.) Aldred echoed previous comments from GM CEO Mary Barra, saying the brand’s future is about Electric vehicles will be based on customer demand.

Buick’s U.S. sales rose 16.4% in the first quarter, and overall sales last year were up 61.4% compared with modest results in 2022.

Although sales grew to 167,030 vehicles last year, results were still about 40,000 units lower than in 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic caused years-long supply chain and production problems.

Much of Buick’s growth came from sales of its new entry-level Envista crossover, which was the brand’s third-best-selling vehicle in the first quarter with nearly 10,000 units sold.

Buick has also been expanding its product line and raising the average transaction price of its high-end “Avenir” model. In the first quarter of this year, the Avenir model accounted for approximately 25% of Buick’s sales.

Aldred said he believes Buick can continue to grow U.S. sales with its new vehicle lineup, especially as Envista production ramps up and the 2025 Enclave arrives at dealers this summer.

“When that does happen, we believe we’ll have the freshest product portfolio in the industry then,” Aldred said. “Every vehicle is performing very, very strongly.”

It’s a different story in China, where Buick and other non-domestic brands have struggled. From 2019 to 2023, Buick’s sales in China dropped by approximately 40% to approximately 517,000 vehicles. down 32% During this period, GM’s sales in China continued to rise, and the local automaker’s status was rising.

“The market is changing very quickly … just in terms of the number of brands being sold,” Aldred said. “It expands the market, that’s true, but Buick remains healthy and successful there.”
