Detroit – General Motors is working with Google The two companies announced Tuesday that they will explore opportunities to implement artificial intelligence technology in the automaker’s business.
The broad partnership between the Detroit automaker and Google’s cloud unit around generative or conversational artificial intelligence expands on the two companies’ previous collaboration on GM’s OnStar interactive virtual assistant (IVA) due in 2022 .
GM said Tuesday that the IVA system is powered by an “intent recognition algorithm” that uses Google Cloud’s conversational artificial intelligence technology to provide OnStar users with responses to common queries as well as directions and navigation assistance.
Similar to other industries, the potential applications of artificial intelligence, including ChatGPT as it is known, has become an increasingly hot topic in the automotive industry. Some use cases may include vehicle authentication, software and in-vehicle assistance such as OnStar services.
“Generative artificial intelligence has the potential to revolutionize the buying, owning and interacting experience in and out of vehicles, opening up opportunities for new features and services,” said former automaker Mike Abbott. apple executive vice president of software and services at GM, said in a statement.
GM previously said it was exploring uses for ChatGPT as part of a broader partnership with GM. Microsoft.
