GM’s 2023 U.S. vehicle sales were its best since 2019

Detroit – General Motors’ Last year, U.S. auto sales grew 14.1%, the automaker’s best year since 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic and years of supply chain problems impacted it.

The automaker will sell about 2.3 million vehicles in 2022 and about 2.9 million vehicles in 2019.

General Motors’ sales are in line with overall industry sales expectations: Edmunds predicts that industry-wide sales will reach 15.5 million vehicles in 2023, an increase of approximately 14% from 2022.

General Motors said it expects total U.S. industry sales to reach 16 million vehicles in 2024. This would be the highest industry sales since more than 17 million units in 2019.

“GM has strong momentum,” Marissa West, GM senior vice president and president of North America, said in a press release. “We are growing market share in 2023, maintaining strong pricing and lower Incentives.”

General Motors’ annual sales growth was mainly driven by a 61% increase in its Buick brand, followed by a 13.1% increase in its mainstream Chevrolet brand. In 2023, sales of the GMC and Cadillac brands each increased by approximately 9%.
