Google Cloud to digitize El Salvador’s governance, healthcare and education

google cloud Announce On August 29, a new partnership with the government of El Salvador was established to open an office in the country and provide Google Distributed Cloud (GDC) services.

The partnership aims to digitize the country, update government services and improve healthcare and education systems. The GDC will also help bring the infrastructure closer to where data is generated in El Salvador.

The country’s president, Nayib Bukele, said he believed El Salvador was fast becoming an “innovation hub”.

“El Salvador is moving forward. We believe that technology and foreign investment are the keys to development.”

He also posted about the partnership with a smirk on social media.

The partnership will last seven years, subject to full legislative approval, and will help the government digitize items and processes such as invoicing and permitting. Google Cloud’s entry into El Salvador marks the first government in Latin America to utilize cloud technology, the announcement said.

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said he believes cloud computing can “really transform” Latin America.

“The use of cloud computing has expanded significantly across industries and regions around the world, enabling small companies and the public sector to leverage the same applications and services as they do in more established markets,” he said.

Additional GDC infrastructure will also help support El Salvador’s positive stance on Bitcoin (BTC) adoption and integration into society.it allow Applicable to Bitcoin full nodes that support the ordinal protocol.

Additionally, on Aug. 8, El Salvador granted cryptocurrency exchange Binance a license to provide crypto services to users in the country. Bitcoin has been the legal tender there since 2021.

Most recently, the Bitcoin Beach initiative went into the classroom, teaching over 25,000 students about Bitcoin and helping them earn a “Bitcoin Diploma” through the country’s education system.

The country has seen immediate returns from the program, with one teenager earning a diploma and then returning to his former school to teach educators about digital assets.
