The Google Pixel 8 series, including the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, were unveiled on October 4 at the company’s Made by Google event. The new Pixel phones are powered by Google’s latest Tensor G3 chip, run Android 14 – right out of the box, and come with upgraded cameras. The back of the Pixel 8 Pro is equipped with a 50-megapixel main camera, a 64-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a third 48-megapixel telephoto camera. The top-of-the-line phone also comes with professional controls in the camera app that allow users to adjust camera settings. However, one X user discovered that the Pixel 8 Pro’s exclusive Pro controls can be accessed on any Pixel phone with a Tensor chipset.
New professional controls in the Pixel 8 Pro camera app allow users to adjust camera-specific settings such as ISO, shutter speed, aperture size, and more, bringing a professional photography experience to Pixel phones. The feature was supposed to be locked to the Pixel 8 Pro, but X (formerly Twitter) user Kamila (@Za_Raczke) discovered that it can also be enabled on older Pixel phones running Tensor chips.
Camilla release X, showing off the professional camera features running on Pixel 7 Pro. In the post, she said she gained early access to the Google Camera apk from her new phone and modified it so that the feature would work on older Pixels. “…It turns out that it works perfectly on any Tensor Pixel from 6 to 7 Pro,” she said.
The user also posted a photo of the Pro Control feature running on an older Pixel phone, showing that the focus of the camera lens can be manually adjusted. This overlay feature gives users full control over the new camera app and allows them to switch between lenses. According to Camila, Pro Control appears to be officially restricted to the Pixel 8 Pro via an artificial software lock, and when the lock is bypassed, the feature will be allowed to run on Pixel phones going back to the Pixel 6, which runs on Google’s on the first Tensor chip.
The Google Pixel 8 series also introduces features supported by Google artificial intelligence such as photo deblurring. Pixel 8 Pro features a 6.7-inch Quad HD (1,344×2,992 pixels) display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The flagship phone is priced at Rs. 1,06,999 for the 128GB storage model. The Pro model comes in Bay, Obsidian, and Porcelain.
