Google Pixel Fold 2 or Pixel Flip Reportedly Spotted on Latest Google Pixel Buds App

Google Pixel Fold was released in early May this year, equipped with Tensor G2 SoC and 4,821mAh battery, supporting 30W wired fast charging. The company is expected to develop a successor to this phone and may launch it in the market in 2024. By 2025, the tech giant is also expected to launch a clamshell foldable phone. A report suggests that a different smartphone than the upcoming Pixel 8 series model was recently spotted in the Accessories app.

Google from 9 to 5 Report It is said that a new device codenamed “comet” was discovered in the latest updated version of the Google Pixel Buds app. The list also includes models codenamed “Shiba” and “Husky”: Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro respectively. It is speculated that the unknown model may be Pixel Fold 2 or Pixel Flip. Both phones are yet to be officially announced.

The report theorizes that since the codename has nothing to do with a dog breed, the “Comet” model is unlikely to refer to the alleged Pixel 8a phone. Pixel 9 models are reportedly expected to get reptilian-based codenames. Future Pixel 9 phones may have codenames such as “Komodo” and “Caiman”.

It’s worth noting that the Google Pixel Fold is codenamed “Felix,” replacing the original “passport” codename, as it falls into the same category as the Pixel 7 series the Tensor G2 runs on, with models codenamed “cheetah” and “panther” .

The report further clarifies that given the relatively recent launch of the Pixel Fold phone and the category breakdown of the Pixel Buds app backend, the phone codenamed “comet” is likely to be the Pixel Flip, a clamshell foldable model.
