Hall of Flame – Cointelegraph Magazine

Gracy Chen, managing director of global cryptocurrency exchange Bitget, advises her fans and friends not to look too far in exchange for some WorldCoin tokens.

“This is a huge privacy issue,” she told the magazine, adding that she was not optimistic about the price outlook for the WLD token given the expected influx in the near future.

“There will be a lot more coming out in the next year or two,” she explains.

Chen admits her gig at Bitget was cool, but it also meant her American friends were constantly asking for favors.

“Since we stopped taking U.S. clients, I’ve had a lot of friends with U.S. passports ask if they could get a little money back to open an account.”

“I rejected many such requests. This is a red line we cannot cross,” Chen said.

Before taking on the role of strategic director at Bitget, Chen worked as an anchor and producer at Phoenix TV’s technology and finance channel, a major player in China’s media industry.

However, a billion-dollar idea popped up, and Chen soon left journalism.

In 2015, she co-founded a tax startup designed for freelancers that soared to unicorn status in just three years.

“This is a fintech company. So, what they do is they provide services to freelancers. They provide services to freelancers and provide tax and payroll automation services,” she said.

However, one of her proudest achievements is having football legend Lionel Messi join the Bitget team as a partner.

Chen said Messi faced stiff competition from numerous candidates, but Bitget ultimately chose him because of his father-like qualities and similarities to the exchange.

“He has a great reputation as a father, husband and team leader, and we also see some similarities between Bitget and Messi,” she said.

Chen said Bitget got its start during a bear market, and similarly, Messi suffered from a growth hormone deficiency when he first took up the sport as a young man.

“He’s not tall. He’s at a disadvantage, so he has a tough start.”

What makes Twitter famous?

Chen explained that she only discovered her love for Twitter (now X) after landing a senior position in cryptocurrency.

“My Twitter following started with cryptocurrencies. I think when I was a reporter, I wasn’t active on Twitter because I mostly covered Asian markets and reported in Mandarin.”

Chen has a very friendly attitude toward X, explaining major events to her followers in broken down, easy-to-understand clues.

However, she observed that her Twitter follower count surged during the same period that Bitget’s business activity surged.

“My followers grew over a period of time from late last year to early this year. During that time I saw a singularity where you see exponential growth, and that’s when our company grew.”

“Therefore, I will primarily contribute my success or any kind of achievement or subsequent numbers to the development of Bitget,” she added.

What type of Twitter content can you expect?

Chen’s Twitter account is rich and varied. You’ll get a glimpse into her airplane adventures, and who knows, you might even stumble upon some crazy travel inspiration.

But when the crypto world is in turmoil — whether it’s lawsuits, failed deals, or everything in between — Chen provides an honest breakdown.

What type of content do you like?

Chen has mixed feelings about Twitter, saying it can sometimes become a noisy battleground.

“Twitter is basically a very noisy place. Everyone is changing their opinions and trying to attract attention,” Chen declared.

She revealed that she loved seeing people from Altcoin Daily and corner officebut she advises die-hard crypto Twitter enthusiasts to look away from their screens from time to time.

“I strongly recommend that anyone who uses encrypted messages heavily on Twitter spend at least an hour or two away from social media, do basic research and talk to a group of trusted friends.”

predict

Chen is convinced that Bitcoin exchange-traded funds are gaining approval, although it may not happen in 2023.

“Not this year – there are only three months left of the year. Maybe early 2024,” she predicted.

She suggested this could be a “very good driver” for the next bull market.

When it comes to Coinbase and Binance’s duel with the SEC, Chen said Coinbase may be in safe waters, but Binance may be in for a roller coaster ride.

“I personally believe that Coinbase is a well-regulated, US-driven cryptocurrency exchange, so the lawsuit will probably be resolved with some fines. As for the SEC vs. Binance battle, it is much trickier.”

However, she believes Binance’s legal warriors will fight hard:

“I think they have a very, very strong legal team to fight this fight.”
