How Tesla is at the center of the UAW strikes

UAW strike hits Detroit’s Big Three automakers – General Motors, Ford and star – could widen the EV gap between them and Tesla, which already controls 60% of the EV market.

All three Detroit automakers use union labor, represented by the United Auto Workers union — Tesla certainly not. If the Detroit Three meet all of the union’s demands, payments to workers could more than double the current amount. Industry insiders say labor costs at General Motors, Ford and Stellantis are already much higher than at the electric car maker.

But Tesla workers have tried to unionize the factory in the past. Although attempts to date have not been successful, Recent polls show about two-thirds of Americans support unions.
