Intel Core 14th Gen Unlocked Desktop CPUs Launched: All Details

Intel has launched its latest 14th generation Core desktop processor series, codenamed Raptor Lake-S Refresh. Led by the Intel Core i9-14900K. This new desktop processor family includes six new unlocked desktop processors that offer up to 24 cores and 32 threads, running at up to 6GHz out of the box. In addition, the Intel Core i7-14700K has 20 cores and 28 threads, thanks to four more efficient cores compared to the previous generation. Intel’s Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU) now features a new AI Assist feature that brings one-click AI-guided overclocking to select unlocked Intel Core 14th Gen desktop processors. The new processors will be available in retail stores and OEM partner systems starting October 17, 2023.

At the top of Intel’s 14th generation desktop processor stack is the Core i9-14900K. It has 25% more cores than the Core i7-14700K and is compatible with existing 600 (may require a BIOS update) or 700 series motherboards. Intel is targeting hardcore gamers and performance enthusiasts with this chip. It also has a 36MB L3 cache, a maximum turbo frequency of up to 5.6GHz for the P core, a maximum turbo frequency of up to 4.4GHz for the E core, and Intel UHD Graphics 770 onboard. There is also a Core i9-14900KF, which has exactly the same specifications but does not have an onboard graphics card.

Next up are the Intel Core i7 models, including the i7-14700K and i7-14700KF (without iGPU). Both models feature 20 CPU cores, 33MB of L3 cache, and similar Turbo clock speeds to the Core i9 models. Interestingly, the Core i7 models have higher base frequencies of 3.4GHz and 2.5GHz (P-core and E-core respectively) compared to the i9 model.

Finally, we have two Core i5 models, including the Core i5-14600K and Core i5-14600KF. Both have a total of 14 cores (6P+8E) and 24MB of L3 cache. The Core i9 model is the only one that supports Intel Thermal Velocity Boost frequencies up to 6GHz. Core i7 models feature Intel Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0, while Core i5 models do not support either technology.

Intel’s latest desktop processor series comes with integrated support for Wi-Fi 6/6E and Bluetooth 5.3, as well as standalone support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 wireless technologies. In addition, these processors support Thunderbolt 4 and upcoming Thunderbolt 5 wired connections, enabling bidirectional bandwidth speeds of up to 80Gbps.

Roger Chandler, Intel vice president and general manager of Enthusiast PCs and Workstations in the Client Computing Group, commented: “Since the launch of our performance hybrid architecture, Intel has continued to raise the bar for desktop performance. With our 14th Generation Intel Core With processors, we once again show why enthusiasts turn to Intel for the best desktop experience on the market today.”
