iOS 17 is rolling out to eligible devices later today, and Apple will bring some new features and improvements to iOS, the company’s iPhone operating system. While most of the features Apple is launching at WWDC 2023 are enhancements to existing features and functionality, Apple will also launch a new Journal app later this year and support for collaborative playlists on Apple Music. Most of Apple’s recent smartphones are eligible to receive the iOS 17 update, which means they’ll be able to access features like NameDrop, Standby Mode, and Contact Posters later today.
iOS 17 release schedule
iOS 17 is expected to launch tonight at 10:30 IST. The company’s next smartphone operating system update will be released in line with its previous software releases. Apple typically rolls out new updates — except for major bug fixes or security flaws — on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday instead of later in the week.
Users who have installed the beta version of iOS 17 can also turn off the beta channel through the Settings app and update to the stable version when it is rolled out to users tonight. Users who have updated to iOS 17 RC, which launched last week, will have to wait until Apple launches iOS 17.1 to switch to the stable version.
iPhone models to be upgraded to iOS 17
According to Apple, iPhone models starting with the iPhone XR released in 2018 and later will receive the iOS 17 update this year. The company said that while the iPhone X and iPhone 8 received the iOS 16 update this year, they will not update to iOS 17.
