Apple has finally released a long-awaited software update for its recently launched iPhone 15 series, aiming to address known heating issues.The software update is marked as iOS 17.0.3, the size is about 423.2MB, and can be downloaded through General>Software Update> and check for updates, which will prompt your iPhone to check for updates instead of waiting for the notification to arrive. While the update is primarily targeted at iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max users, it is also available for iPhone 15 and other recently launched iPhone models. The same fix also works on iPadOS 17.0.3.
According to the changelog, the new iOS 17.0.3 update only lists two fixes. The first is related to a core vulnerability in which an attacker with local access to the device “could actively target iOS versions prior to iOS 16.6.” The second fix relates to buffer overflows, which can lead to arbitrary code execution or what are now known as libvpx bugs.
The update also resolves an issue that could cause iPhone 15 Pro models to run hotter than expected. This update, along with an update for Instagram (version 302), one of the apps known to cause overheating issues for some users, should cool down the iPhones of affected users. Other apps known to cause overheating in new iPhone 15 Pro models include Uber and Asphalt 9: Legends.
Apple does claim that overheating of new iPhone 15 Pro models poses no risk to users.
