Apple launched the new iPhone 15 series and the new Apple Watch series at an event held in Cupertino, California on September 12. One of the main themes of the event was sustainability, as Apple claimed to be using more recycled metal in its devices this year and some of its new smartwatches are now carbon neutral. Rumors about a move to USB Type-C are also correct. All new iPhones and AirPods Pro (2nd generation) are equipped with a USB Type-C connector. Apple iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus: Features and price in India
iPhone 15 price starts at Rs. iPhone 15 Plus price starts at Rs 79,900. 89,900, both with 128GB base storage. iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus prices now start at Rs. 69,900 and Rs.79,900 respectively. The iPhone 15 will be available for pre-order on September 15th and will go on sale on September 22nd.
The new iPhone 15 series borrows some features from the iPhone 14 Pro series, such as Dynamic Island, A16 Bionic processor, and 48-megapixel main camera. However, other Pro features such as 120Hz refresh rate and telephoto camera are still reserved for the Pro model. Apple claims that the body of the new iPhone 15 dual-core phone uses 75% recycled aluminum and the battery uses 100% recycled cobalt. The new smartphone this time around is also available in pink, in addition to more subdued shades of blue, yellow, green and black.
Apple iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone Pro Max: Features and price in India
The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max received some notable upgrades this year and differ in their respective telephoto cameras. iPhone 15 Pro price starts at Rs. The 128GB storage variant is priced at Rs 1,34,900, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,34,900. 1,59,900 for 256GB storage. It’s worth noting that the iPhone 14 Pro series has officially been discontinued, but you can still buy it through Apple resellers. The Apple 15 Pro models ditched gold in favor of “natural” tones, as well as blue, white, and black. The iPhone 15 Pro will be available for pre-order on September 15th and will go on sale on September 22nd.
The biggest design change for the iPhone 15 Pro models is the change of the frame from stainless steel to titanium. Apple says it uses grade 5 titanium, which should be lighter and stronger than the 14 Pro series. Another big design change on the professional model is that the mute switch is now replaced with an “action button”. A long press of this button performs its original function of putting the iPhone into silent mode, but it can also be programmed to turn on the camera, start recording, and more.
The next big upgrade is the processor. The iPhone 15 Pro series is powered by Apple’s A17 Pro SoC, which is built on an “industry-first” 3nm manufacturing process. It contains 16 billion transistors, is equipped with a 6-core CPU, 6-core GPU, and supports hardware-level ray tracing in games. Apple also uses a Hi-Speed USB 3.0 controller on the Type-C port on the Pro model, promising up to 10Gbps of bandwidth. However, in typical Apple fashion, you’ll need an optional Hi-Speed USB Type-C cable to take advantage of this.
The camera is the third major upgrade. The new iPhone 15 Pro features an improved main 48-megapixel sensor, now available in more professional 24mm, 28mm, and 35mm focal length options. There’s also a special nano-coating on the lens that reduces lens flare. New iPhones (including non-Pro models) support Smart HDR 5, which improves dynamic range and color in still images.
iPhone 15 Pro Max has an upgraded telephoto camera. It’s still a 12-megapixel sensor with an aperture of af/2.8, but now uses a “prism” to direct light to the sensor, giving the camera an effective 5x optical zoom instead of 3x. The iPhone 15 Pro’s telephoto camera still has a 3x optical zoom function. Apple also said the new Pro models are the first smartphones to support the ACES (Academy Color Encoding System) color grading standard used by professional filmmakers.
Another new feature that could play an important role in user-generated content in Apple Vision Pro is spatial video. The new iPhone 15 Pro models can record spatial video, capturing footage using the main and ultra-wide cameras. The feature will be enabled via a software update later this year.
Apple Watch Series 9: Features and India price
Apple Watch Series 9 replaces Series 8. Prices start at Rs. 41,900 while the Apple Watch SE (2nd generation) starts at Rs 41,900. 29,900. Watch Series 9 will be available in aluminum and stainless steel, and in 41mm and 45mm case sizes. The watch is available in multiple colors and will be launched in India on September 22.
The Apple Watch Series 9 doesn’t look any different than the Series 8, but it does come with the new Apple S9 processor, which is said to enable faster on-device Siri. There’s also a second-generation ultra-wideband (UWB) chip that now lets you position your iPhone near you or activate music widgets on the watch when you hold it near a HomePod. The Series 9’s display now supports up to 2,000 nits of brightness, and can go as low as 1 nit.
One of the coolest features of the S9 chip is double-click. It uses multiple sensors in the watch to detect when you make a double-tap gesture with your thumb and index finger. You can use it to answer or reject calls, browse widgets, and more—all without touching the screen.
Apple said it has stopped using real leather in all accessories, including watch bands. There is a new FineWoven material, consisting of 65% PCR material.
Apple Watch Ultra 2: Features and India price
Apple has also updated its Ultra watch, calling it Apple Watch Ultra 2. Priced at Rs. Priced at 89,900 units, it will be launched in India on September 22. It also comes with the new S9 processor, double-tap gesture, faster in-device Siri, and more. The display is now up to 3,000 nits and comes with a new Modular Ultra watch face. Its band also uses more environmentally friendly materials, giving it a new look.
