The iPhone 15 series was unveiled at Apple’s Wonderlust event on September 12. The product line includes four models – iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The new iPhone is powered by Apple’s self-developed A16 Bionic and A17 Pro chips, and is said to have a battery life of up to 29 hours. The phone is currently available for pre-order in India and is expected to go on sale on September 22. The iPhone 15 series is equipped with a USB Type-C port for the first time. The following are the features supported by these ports.
According to support, all iPhone 15 series models can charge AirPods, Apple Watch, or any other small device that supports USB Power Delivery document Published by Apple. The new iPhone can provide up to 4.5 watts of power to the device being charged. The USB Type-C port claims to deliver 15 times the power compared to the Lightning port’s 0.3 watt output. The document states that users can now power most accessories on the go without the need for an external power source.
At the same time, iPhone 15 Pro models support the USB 3.2 standard, and according to support documents, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max can transfer data at speeds up to 10Gbit per second. However, the company only provides a USB 2-compatible cable in the box, which offers lower transfer speeds. Users will need to purchase an optional USB-3 compliant cable to transfer data at the fastest possible rate.
According to the document, the iPhone 15 series supports video mirroring for up to 4K 60Hz HDR movies using DisplayPort. Users with a USB Type-C to DisplayPort cable that supports USB 3.1 or higher speeds can mirror content to an external display.
Apple also allows content to be mirrored to an HDMI monitor or TV via a USB Type-C to HDMI adapter or cable. Apple’s USB Type-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter may display material in HDR10 or Dolby Vision if the external monitor or TV supports it. The USB Type-C connector can also connect the iPhone 15 series to CarPlay-enabled vehicles using a USB Type-C to USB Type-A connection, the document adds.
