To boost electronics production in India, the government has started offering a series of incentives to makers of mobile phones, laptops and semiconductors. This not only contributes to the country’s GDP but also helps in the creation of multiple jobs in the production and distribution sectors.
economic times Report The iPhone 15 models, which are hinted to be produced under the Make in India initiative, may arrive at the same time as the product’s global launch. The devices are said to be produced at the Chennai factory of Apple assembler Foxconn.
The report pointed out that following the launch of the iPhone 14 last year, the Indian-made phone went on sale within 10 days of its global launch. This year, the company expects even less lag time (if any), with Apple giving way to Foxconn’s manufacturing plant in Chennai to serve the local Indian market first before considering exports.
It is worth noting that the government has recently imposed import restrictions on a variety of electronic products such as laptops, tablets, and PCs. The restrictions, which were supposed to come into effect immediately in the first week of August, have been delayed by three months and certain electronic products will need to be cleared for import from Nov. 1.
