Israeli airstrikes in the besieged Gaza Strip have displaced more than 338,000 people, according to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.
The United Nations said in an update late on Wednesday that the number had increased by 30% in 24 hours. Two-thirds of the displaced people took refuge in UNRWA schools.
Israel, which controls the supply of goods in Hamas-controlled territory, has imposed a “total” siege, blocking all fuel, gas and electricity.
Gaza’s only power plant ran out of fuel around noon on Wednesday, according to the United Nations. “Israeli authorities have warned that they will attack the plant if it receives any fuel and resumes operations (d),” according to the United Nations, citing its operator.
