Israel conflict latest: thousands of Gazans on the move as Israel opens six hour corridor

A Reuters reporter was killed and six injured in shelling in southern Lebanon.

A Reuters spokesman said: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the murder of our photographer Issam Abdullah.”

The shelling came amid sporadic exchanges of gunfire on the border with Israel since hostilities began last Saturday between Israeli forces on one side and Palestinian militants and members of the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah on the other.

Lebanese Prime Minister Naguib Mikati said the journalists had become “targets of direct Israeli bombings,” according to the Lebanese state news agency.

The United Nations peacekeepers said that “heavy fighting broke out between Lebanon and Israel” in the area where the reporter was located. Reporters at the scene said this was Israeli shelling.

Reuters reporters Thaer Al-Sudani and Maher Nazeh were injured, as were AFP reporters Dylan Collins and Christina Assi and Al Jazeera reporters Carmen Joukhadar and Eli Brakhia.
