Manta Network’s L2 hits mainnet to drive ZK-enabled DApp development

The ecosystem of layer 2 blockchain solutions powered by zero-knowledge proofs has welcomed a new player as Manta Network launches its ZK-as-a-service platform.

Manta Pacific is a modular L2 designed to power EVM-native decentralized applications (DApps) using ZK-proof technology. The platform provides a software development kit and ZK library, which is said to provide developers with plug-and-play capabilities.

Native EVM means applications deployed on Ethereum can be deployed on Manta Pacific and vice versa, while support for ZK provides lower gas fees and scalability. Users can also connect Ethereum to Manta and start exploring its development environment.

Industry peers include Consensys’ Linea zkEVM, Polygon zkEVM, Starknet, Coinbase’s Base and zkSync Era, etc., providing Web3 developers with many ZK-proof L2 solution options.

After the launch of the mainnet, Manta Network core contributor Kenny Li said in an interview with Cointelegraph that different ZK-rollip L2 provides different value propositions and aims to solve major problems faced by developers.

“We believe that in the medium to long term, the market will focus on a small number of available solutions that focus on making it as easy as possible for developers to build and deploy ZK-enabled applications.”

Li added that with the success of the software-as-a-service model, the Web2 technology world has undergone a similar evolution, adopting a plug-and-play approach:

“This is critical when it comes to zero-knowledge, developers don’t have to worry about infrastructure because the complexity of cryptography can be abstracted away.”

According to Manta Network core contributors, Manta Pacific has been in development for nine months, and its testnet, launched in July 2023, has already created 150,000 wallets and more than 3.5 million transactions.

Manta raised $25 million from investors in July 2023 to expand the project’s network and use cases with an eye on driving adoption in Asian markets.
