Matter Labs steps back as zkSync launches ecosystem portal managed by DappRadar

Matter Labs recently announced the launch of a new zkSync ecosystem portal managed by DappRadar, which both partners say is a step toward a fully decentralized protocol.

zkSync is a second layer blockchain for Ethereum payments. It was created by Matter Labs as a way to expand the Ethereum blockchain ecosystem. According to the protocol’s website, it currently has more than 200 projects and has served more than 8.8 million testnet transactions.

As Cointelegraph reported in April, its launch raised some eyebrows as its funding reached $115 million within the first 10 days of its public mainnet launch.

According to a recent press release seen by Cointelegraph, the partnership with DappRadar is part of Matter Labs’ ongoing zkSync decentralization initiative:

“From the beginning, Matter Labs’ ultimate vision has been to incubate, launch and ultimately decentralize the zkSync protocol and ZK Stack. To achieve this vision, Matter Labs is exiting the management of zkSync’s rapidly growing ecosystem.”

The press release goes on to say, “Decentralization comes from gradually removing Matter Labs from technology building and ecosystem management.”

These changes are consistent with the zkSync Creed, a document drafted in June that embodies the ideals of the zkSync community and its “trustless” and “sovereignty” principles.

DappRadar’s platform will purportedly provide greater visibility for dapps listed through the zkSync ecosystem portal, which according to Matter Labs should translate into more user views and more opportunities for major media coverage.

Looking ahead, Matter Labs said giving up control of the zkSync ecosystem is “just the beginning.” According to the press release, the “next step” is plans to fully decentralize the protocol’s technology, community governance, and all other key parts of the network.
