MediaTek Announces First Chipset Built on TSMC’s 3nm Process With Performance, Efficiency Improvements: Details

MediaTek announced on Thursday that it has developed its first chipset based on TSMC’s 3nm process. The company’s flagship chipset, the Dimensity chipset, will be launched next year and will offer significant improvements in performance and efficiency compared to current-generation chipsets. The company has not revealed which brands it will work with to integrate the new processors. Rivals Apple and Qualcomm are also said to be working on chips with cutting-edge chip technology.

chip maker Announce In a press statement, the company has successfully built the first 3nm chipset based on TSMC’s advanced 3nm technology. The Taiwanese company also said its 3nm MediaTek chips will debut in smartphones, tablets, smart cars and other devices in the second half of 2024. According to previous reports, Qualcomm plans to launch a 3nm chipset this year, which may be available in the second half of 2024. Snapdragon Summit Event.

The company also detailed the performance and efficiency benefits of using TSMC’s 3nm process to manufacture its latest chipsets. MediaTek claims an 18% increase in performance and speed, or a 32% reduction in power consumption at the same speed, compared to TSMC’s N5 process. Meanwhile, logic density has increased by 60 percent compared to older chip technology, according to MediaTek.

As smartphone chips get smaller, the technology involved in their development has become more complex and more expensive to produce. TSMC will start producing advanced 3nm chips in December 2022. MediaTek’s upcoming chipset will be part of its high-end Dimensity mobile processor and may power flagship smartphones arriving in the second half of 2024.

However, MediaTek’s new 3nm chipset is unlikely to be the first to be adopted in a flagship phone — Apple is the first company to partner with TSMC to create a next-generation 3nm chipset, and is expected to power its two upcoming chipsets. Powering the launch of the smartphones — the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are said to be powered by last year’s flagship A16 Bionic chip.
