MultiversX eyes metaverse scalability as CEO sheds light on spatial computing

At the peak of the last bull market, Metaverse attracted a lot of interest from the crypto community and venture capital firms. Companies like Meta and Apple jumping on the Metaverse bandwagon will only lend more legitimacy to the concept, but these two multi-billion dollar tech companies are taking very different approaches to it.

On the one hand, Meta has turned all its focus to virtual reality (VR) and recently partnered with Ray-Ban to release new smart glasses, while Apple has adopted a spatial computing method focused on augmented reality (AR). And launched its own AR glasses earlier in 2017. 2023.

Beniamin Mincu, CEO of blockchain-based Metaverse platform MultiversX, believes that Apple’s spatial computing approach is more suitable for Metaverse goals than Meta’s VR Quest headset. In an exclusive interview with Cointelegraph editor Sun Zhiyuan, Mincu said that Meta’s focus on virtual reality may be a mistake because it is less intuitive, while Apple’s spatial computing method allows AR glasses to provide a more intuitive experience.

He explained that Meta’s glasses only focus on a specific virtual world, while the concept of Metaverse is more about interactive experiences in that virtual world. The glasses focus on just one use case rather than multiple:

“I think the most fundamental thing that changes the conversation is to think of lenses or interfaces as spatial computing devices. I think that’s a hugely underrated paradigm shift that Apple has introduced. So that’s why spatial computing looks like the same thing, which It’s a different world.”

Spatial computing refers to the processes and tools used to capture, process, and interact with 3D data. It can include the Internet of Things, digital twins, ambient computing, augmented reality, virtual reality, artificial intelligence and physical control. Spatial computing is human-machine interaction in which devices retain and manipulate representations of real objects and spaces.

Mincu added that MultiversX’s new technology upgrade, due out on October 19, will bring it in line with spatial computing methods and make it more scalable. This technology upgrade will bring key features to the platform, including early block proposals, parallel node processing, consensus signature checking, and dynamic gas cost improvements.

These technology upgrades are expected to increase transaction throughput by seven times, with faster confirmations and shorter finalization times. Among other notable changes, the new upgrade will bring on-chain governance, a new enhanced virtual machine, and an improved relay transaction model that will allow tokens running on the network to cover gas costs.
