SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said on Saturday that his Starlink would provide connectivity to “internationally recognized aid organizations” in Gaza. Previously, communications in the Gaza Strip were disrupted due to intensified Israeli bombing.
Starlink is the satellite broadband arm of Musk’s SpaceX, which dominates the commercial space launch market. Its user terminals proved crucial in helping Ukraine repel the Russian invasion, allowing troops to communicate with each other and with leaders in Kiev despite attacks on communications infrastructure.
Israel vows to eradicate Hamas Rules Gaza and vowed to destroy Israel – launching an attack on the country three weeks ago. But the Gaza Strip is one of the most densely populated areas in the world, home to about 2.2 million people, and many innocent civilians, including children, are in trouble.
Early Saturday morning, Musk replied Poster Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Friday blamed the Israeli military for causing the blackout.
“It is unacceptable to cut off all communications with a population of 2.2 million people,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote. “Journalists, medical professionals, humanitarian efforts, and innocent people are all at risk. I don’t know how to justify this. This behavior is justified. The United States has always condemned this practice.”
Musk responded“Starlink will support connections to internationally recognized aid organizations in Gaza.”
He also responded to the International Telecommunication Union, the United Nations information and communications technology agency, wrote It “condemns the communications outage in Gaza and calls for the restoration of life-saving internet access. Civilians and civilian infrastructure must be protected at all times.”
Musk Replied “The communications outage does seem questionable,” he wrote earlier on Saturday.
The blackout heightened concerns about the Israeli military’s possible plans for Gaza. “This information blackout has the potential to provide cover for mass atrocities and lead to impunity for human rights violations,” Deborah Brown, senior technology and human rights researcher at Human Rights Watch, said in a statement.
Ocasio-Cortez’s post was a reply to Palestinian Authority Ambassador to the UK Hussam Zomlot, who wrote:
“I have been trying for hours to contact my family in Gaza without success. All telecommunications and internet have been cut off, and Israeli attacks are literally destroying Gaza from the air, land and sea. Before the world can intervene, How many more innocent people will be murdered: children, parents and grandparents?”
Musk Replied To another X user, “No terminals from Gaza have attempted to communicate with our constellation. SpaceX will support communications with internationally recognized aid organizations.”
“The power outage also prevented ambulances from reaching the injured,” wrote Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization. “We’re still losing touch with our employees.”
