Nvidia’s Powerful semiconductors are becoming even more important as their capabilities to drive artificial intelligence are increasingly sought after.
But their unique capabilities also worry China hawks in the United States that they could fall into the wrong hands, accelerating the spread of undemocratic ideas or developing autonomous weapons.

U.S. artificial intelligence executives have warned the government that China is not lagging behind in the development of transformative technologies, and U.S. policymakers see an urgency in taking steps to stay ahead.

Nvidia has created a version of its popular artificial intelligence chip, the A100, for sale in the Chinese market. But new restrictions reportedly being considered by the Biden administration would limit even those unlicensed sales.
The move would extend an ongoing standoff between the U.S. and Chinese governments over technology sales between the two countries.Chinese government in May bans purchase of U.S. memory chip maker for “critical information infrastructure” Micron, saying the company poses a “significant security risk.” The Commerce Department said at the time that it “firmly opposes unsubstantiated restrictions.”
