OK Group sunsets ‘Okcoin’ for a global transition to ‘OKX’

Major cryptocurrency exchange operator OK Group continues its business transformation, renaming its cryptocurrency venture “OKX”.

OK Group Chief Operating Officer and OKX President Hong Fang posted on X (formerly Twitter) declare Okcoin will be renamed OKX in the coming months. Okcoin was founded in 2013 and will have the same name as OK Group’s other cryptocurrency venture, OKX (formerly OKEx).

“I have been with Okcoin for five years. Over the years, we have put a lot of love and passion into our brand and products,” the executive wrote in the post. He added that the platform’s rebranding in key operating jurisdictions will be beneficial to both its customers and the business.

Fang said that starting in Singapore, OK Group plans to rename “Okcoin” to “OKX” in Europe and the United States in the next few months. The executive assured that customers will receive “the same set of products and services under the same regulatory framework” and will interact with the new brand.

Fang also mentioned that OK Group has recently suspended the “Okcoin” brand and products in many regions, including Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa, South Asia, Hong Kong and other regions.

The executive emphasized that the United States has always been important to the company’s global strategy. “This is home base for a lot of people on our team. It’s very special to us,” Fang wrote, adding:

“Despite all the challenges we face, we remain committed to America as a visionary leader, upholding standards that empower individuals and protect freedom through technology, and define the future we deserve.”

The news comes nearly a year after OK Group renamed another part of its business, formerly known as OKEx. December 2022, OKEx declare Its transformation into “OKX” is not just a centralized cryptocurrency exchange, but also decentralized finance, non-fungible tokens and Web3. The exchange was founded in 2017 by OK Group CEO Xu Xing.
