OnePlus Open will be unveiled at an event in Mumbai on October 19. This is the Shenzhen company’s first foldable phone. Over the past few weeks, multiple leaks and reports have surfaced surrounding the smartphone. The specifications, design renderings and price range of the phone have been confirmed. It is speculated that the upcoming book-style foldable phone will compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Google’s Pixel Fold. In a new video shared by a YouTuber, we visit OnePlus headquarters and get a glimpse of the OnePlus Open model ahead of its official launch.
YouTuber Michael Fisher aka MrMobile was invited by OnePlus to visit their factory and research facilities in China, according to his latest update video. Fisher released his tour compilation and, most importantly, shared glimpses and information about the upcoming OnePlus Open book-style foldable smartphone. Of the several things discussed in the video, the main focus is on two things – durability and creases.
It’s no secret that one of the biggest drawbacks of recent foldable smartphones is the crease that appears on the display when the screen is unfolded. In a recent leak, it was suggested that the OnePlus Open might have an almost invisible crease. In Fisher-Price’s video, we see shallower creases than we’ve seen on other flagship foldables. In fact, it’s similar to the crease found on Oppo Find N series models. Fisher details how the number of parts in the hinge was reduced from 100 to 69, and since the company claims to have used lighter alloys, the hinge now weighs just 13 grams.
In the durability testing the OnePlus Open went through, Fisher took us through a drop test, a twist and bend test, and a water resistance test. While the exact IP certification for the upcoming foldable phone hasn’t been revealed yet, the test chamber the phone is in can simulate conditions equivalent to what an IPX2 or IPX4 phone can handle, so we can speculate that OnePlus Open will come with these ratings. Upon arrival.
The video doesn’t reveal the design or placement of the rear camera unit, however, several leaked OnePlus Open renders and promotional images suggest that the phone will feature a top-center aligned circular rear camera island. There is also news that the phone will be equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and 12GB RAM. The phone is expected to feature a 7.82-inch 120Hz OLED main display with a resolution of 2,268 x 2,440 pixels, and a 6.31-inch 120Hz OLED outer panel with a resolution of 1,116 x 2,484 pixels. The rumored triple-camera unit at the rear of the phone is said to include a 48-megapixel primary sensor, another 48-megapixel secondary sensor, and a 64-megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens. The front camera is expected to be equipped with a 32-megapixel or 20-megapixel sensor. According to the leak, the phone may come with a 4,805mAh battery and support 100W wired fast charging.
