Oppo Find N3 Flip First Impressions: Better Than Samsung and Motorola?

In less than a year, OPPO has launched the successor of Find N2 Flip in India. The new Find N3 Flip has made some major changes mainly in the processor, camera and software. This is your first look at Oppo’s latest flagship foldable phone for India. The smartphone is available in only one variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage and is priced at Rs. 94,999. This is approximately Rs. 5000 more than Find N2 Flip, which is not bad. Sales will begin on October 22nd.

The dimensions of the new Oppo Find N3 Flip are roughly the same as the previous model. The glossy surface of this glossy black variant is a nightmare for fingerprints, but once cleaned up, it gives the phone a very premium look. A new feature on the N3 Flip is the alert slider, which feels and functions exactly like the OnePlus smartphone. The outer two are also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

Next to the external monitor is another new addition. This is the first time we’ve got three camera sensors on a vertically foldable phone, and Oppo claims they’re also among the largest in this form factor. The main camera uses the same 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 sensor as the N2 Flip, but it now has optical stabilization, which helps shoot smoother videos and clearer low-light photos.

Oppo Find N3 Flip comes with a fast charger and protective case in the box

There is now a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens that can automatically focus on taking macro photos and videos. The biggest highlight is the 32-megapixel portrait camera, which offers autofocus and 2x optical zoom as well as 20x digital zoom. That’s a pretty strong camera setup for a clamshell foldable phone, putting the N3 Flip on the same level as some other regular flagship phones, at least on paper.

Oppo Find N3 Flip also comes with a new processor. This is the MediaTek Dimensity 9200, which is said to be more powerful and power efficient. The battery capacity is the same as before at 4,300mAh, and the phone supports 44W fast charging using a bundled adapter. Still no wireless charging.

Oppo says it has a strengthened hinge design and has an IPX4 waterproof rating to protect against minor water immersion. When folded, there’s barely any noticeable gap between the two halves, and the hinge is now certified to withstand 600,000 folds and unfolds, 200,000 more than the N2 Flip.

The internal display of the Oppo Find N3 Flip is a 6.8-inch flexible OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution. Peak brightness increases to 1,600 nits. The display is crisp and vivid, with almost no creases visible or felt when touching, which is impressive.

Find N3 Flip’s outer screen lets you run many full-size apps

The outer screen is almost identical to the one on the N2 Flip. Oppo seems committed to this aspect ratio, and for good reason, as the N3 Flip now lets you use full-size apps on an external display, along with pre-installed weather and camera widgets. Oppo claims to have optimized over 40 apps and more will be added.

With the firmware I have, most of the popular Google apps are there, along with support for WhatsApp, Telegram, Outlook, and others. You can even reply to messages directly from the external screen using your voice or keyboard. The Find N3 Flip runs Android 13, but Oppo says it will get three years of Android updates and four years of security updates.

When you think about it, the Oppo Find N3 Flip is a pretty big update, which is surprising considering the Find N2 Flip was only launched in India earlier this year. This certainly creates stiff competition for Samsung and Motorola, which we’ll explore in more detail in our full review, so stay tuned.
