The Paris prosecutor’s office is investigating financial dealings between billionaire LVMH owner Bernard Arnault and Russian businessman Nikolai Sarkisov.
The office said Friday the transactions were included in a preliminary investigation launched in 2022.
Prosecutors did not reveal the targets of the preliminary investigation but said possible suspicious financial transactions between Arnaud and Sarkissov had been included in the investigation after receiving an alert from Tracfin, the French finance ministry’s financial investigation agency.
In France, the opening of an investigation does not imply the guilt of those involved.
Arnault’s spokesman, Tracfin, and Sarkisov’s company, Reso-Garantia, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
