Powerball jackpot to .73bn as no winners in 35 drawings

The Powerball jackpot climbed to an estimated $1.73 billion on Monday after no one matched the game’s six numbers and won the massive jackpot.

The winning numbers announced were: 16, 34, 46, 55, 67 and Powerball 14.

The scarcity of Powerball jackpot winners reflects the game’s odds of 1 in 292.2 million.

The $1.73 billion prize is awarded to the sole winner and is paid out in an annuity with annual checks for 30 years. Most jackpot winners choose cash, with the prize for the next drawing Wednesday night estimated at $756.6 million.

Federal taxes can eat into winnings, and some states also tax large lottery winnings.

Powerball is played in 45 states as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
