Realme has launched its latest 11-series smartphones in India, which includes the mid-range Realme 11 5G and Realme 11X 5G. The latter is more affordable and has a sleek and lightweight design. The new smartphone is the first in the lineup to come with a new Purple Dawn color option. Apart from this, the recently launched octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ SoC is also being used in smartphones. We got our hands on the 11X 5G, and here are our first impressions of the phone.
The starting price of the Realme 11X 5G remains at Rs. 14,999 in India. That’s for the base version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The 8GB RAM model is priced at Rs. 15,999 and comes with the same amount of storage. In addition to the new purple color, the phone is also available in midnight black.
Design-wise, the body of the Realme 11X 5G is made of polycarbonate, but the back panel has a glass-like finish. For this color variant, the glitter and lines look similar to the letter “S,” in what the company calls an “S-curve gradient” design. We have the phone available for review in its Purple Dawn color, which takes on blue and purple hues when light hits it. The upside is that, despite the reflective panel, fingerprints are less likely to be spotted. Its thickness is 7.89 mm and its weight is 190 grams.
There is a huge circular camera module on the rear panel, which includes two camera sensors and a flash unit. The Realme 11X 5G has a boxy design. The company calls it a “right-angle bezel design” and claims it should offer a comfortable grip. While it’s not very slippery to hold, you can still use the tinted silicone cover that comes in the box for added security. The phone has a fingerprint sensor on the power button, which worked smoothly the first time I used it.
There’s a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port, and speaker grille on the bottom, and there’s a three-slot SIM card tray on the left side of the frame that holds two SIM cards and a microSD card. Realme says the storage is expandable by up to 2TB. The Realme 11X 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ chipset, which was launched in July this year. It is built on a 6nm process and has eight CPU cores.
The Realme 11X 5G features a 6.72-inch full HD+ AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and up to 240Hz touch sampling rate. It supports up to 550 nits of peak brightness. On my first use of the phone, I found the display to be bright enough for indoor use, but outside during the day, I had some difficulty viewing content. The colors are also very vibrant. Options for adjusting the display refresh rate are 120Hz, 60Hz, and Auto Select (Auto Select), which automatically adjusts the refresh rate based on what’s playing on the screen.
The smartphone’s dual rear camera setup includes a 64-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.79 aperture. A couple of sample photos taken in good lighting look good for social media. The camera can record video up to 1080p 30fps. The unit also has a 2-megapixel portrait sensor with an f/2.4 aperture. The camera app has features like 64MP mode, night mode, street mode, text scanner, tilt shift and more.
While the Realme 11X 5G is in the affordable segment, few competing models offer an ultra-wide camera, so not seeing one here is disappointing. The Realme 11X 5G has an 8-megapixel front camera that can take decent photos in daylight. However, we’ll give you all the finer details in our full review.
The Realme 11X 5G is powered by a 5000mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging. There is a 33W charging brick in the box. In my initial use, the battery was able to get me through a full day in comfort. Speaking of software, the Realme 11X 5G runs Android 13-based Realme UI 4.0. When first booting up, I noticed a lot of bloatware. However, most of these apps can be uninstalled. In my initial usage, I didn’t get spam notifications. The smartphone comes with almost all the basic connectivity options like 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS/A-GPS, and USB Type-C.
Stay tuned for the full review of the upcoming Realme 11X 5G.
