Rishi Sunak faces the prospect of a by-election for the Tamworth seat held by Tory MP Chris Pincher, who faces the Commons for molesting a man in a private club Eight weeks of suspension.
An independent parliamentary group rejected Pincher’s appeal against the moratorium recommended by the Commons standards committee in July.
The panel ruled that Pincher’s sanction was “by no means arbitrary or disproportionate” and that the eight-week ban should remain in effect.
The move sparked a recall petition under which Pincher’s Tamworth voters could call for a by-election. In the 2019 general election, he held the seat with a majority of just under 20,000 votes, with Labor in second place.
