sailor paints giant ‘B’ on boat to promote crypto across the waves

Some passions are larger than life, some cover the seven seas. That was the case for captain Remy from Brussels.

Rémi discovered Bitcoin (BTC) in early 2021 and worked to combine it with his longtime love of sailing. Cointelegraph reporter Joe Hall met Remy on board his boat, which he dubs the “Satoshi” (short for Satoshi), to learn more about his seafaring career.

He commented on his life in this way:

“I chose to fulfill two of my passions. One of the oldest is sailing and the newer one is Bitcoin. So I created this project combining these two fields.”

Captain Sato explained that since spending the day drawing a giant Bitcoin B on his sails, it has become a floating symbol for cryptocurrencies.

He told Cointelegraph that B-decorated sails have helped him promote bitcoin adoption at boat races, on the beach, and on the Atlantic Ocean, where he has been sailing for the past 18 months.

“The best thing about this project is meeting people from all over the world: Portugal, Spain, France, UK, to discuss Bitcoin, society or anything in their lives.”

According to his own estimates, as well as Cointelegraph’s real-time estimates from the ground, thousands of people have been exposed to the giant “B” sailing across the ocean.

Rémi said that, in his opinion, the best way to bring newcomers into the Bitcoin space is through art — even the art of flying from the mast of a ship. He also noted that the experience helped him draw parallels between the ethos of Bitcoin and the spirit of sailing.

“It’s a question of responsibility and independence. When sailing, be autonomous, and sometimes get in trouble and be on your own. It’s the same with Bitcoin.”

All over the world, Bitcoin enthusiasts are always looking for innovative and intuitive ways to integrate the currency into their lives. In West Africa, Bitcoin is gaining traction with conferences, Bitcoin Boutique and more nodes coming online.

In the Cayman Islands, bitcoin-backed real estate investments have emerged as a new avenue for long-term residence in the region.
