Sam Bankman-Fried is low on meds, living on peanut butter in prison

FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried appears to be having a hard time in prison, fitting in with his vegan diet on bread smeared with peanut butter while depleting his prescription drugs supply.

At the same hearing that Bankman-Fried pleaded not guilty to seven fraud-related charges, Bankman-Fried’s lawyers pleaded for the former FTX CEO to be charged at Brooklyn’s notorious Cosmopolitan Detention centers receive better treatment, according to Transcript of Aug. 22 shared by Inner City Press.

Bankman-Fried’s lawyers claim he was forced to live on bread, peanut butter and water due to the lack of vegetarian options at the prison. The former FTX boss refuses to eat the “meat” offered by MDC.

Bankman-Fried’s attorney, Mark Cohen, noted that his client had not received ADHD medication since his incarceration and was “concerned” about running out.

“My client takes Adderall… like many people in the world, he follows a vegan diet. For the past 11 days, he hasn’t taken Adderall at all,” Cohen said.

Cointelegraph Spotted Commissary List for 2020 reveal SBF might pay $3.15 for peanut butter on a menu consisting almost entirely of meat, dairy, and fast food.

U.S. Federal Court Judge Sarah Netburn said she would investigate Bankman Freed’s treatment further.

Bankman-Fried’s legal team argues that his incarceration has affected their ability to prepare for their upcoming trial — the first of which is scheduled for Oct. 2 of this year.

“Sixth Amendment has serious problems. Our client cannot prepare for trial. He has been remanded since August 11th. Six weeks into trial and 11 days without discovery. Content is relatively large and can only be viewed online . All we got were imaginary solutions.”

On August 21, Judge Kaplan ordered Bankman-Fried can reach his attorney in a one-off press release dated Aug. 22. He was allowed to use an Internet-enabled laptop connected to a WiFi device.

At a recent hearing, attorneys for Bankman-Fried said they had received an offer that he might visit the New York courthouse two days a week from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

They noted, however, that Bankman-Fried had only access to pencil and paper and had to communicate with them by pressing what he had written down against the glass barrier between them.
