The Sony Xperia 5 V was announced on Friday. The smartphone comes in a single storage variant and comes in three color options. It is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The phone is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and supports proprietary fast charging. It is the successor to the Sony Xperia 5 IV, which is due to be released in September 2022, featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. However, the new phone comes with a dual rear camera setup instead of the triple rear camera setup of its predecessor.

The phone will start shipping in Europe (including the UK) later this month. Sony is yet to confirm the launch of the model in India. Customers who buy the phone from major UK retailers between 22 September and 26 October will be able to take advantage of an exclusive Xperia 5 V launch bundle, available with the Sony WH-CH720N earphones.

The phone is pre-installed with Android 13 and powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC paired with Adreno 740 GPU, 8GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB UFS 4.0 built-in storage.
In terms of optics, the Sony Xperia 5 V features a dual rear camera unit consisting of a 52-megapixel main Exmor T sensor coupled with a 12-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens. The front camera is also equipped with a 12-megapixel sensor.
The Sony Xperia 5 V packs a 5,000mAh battery that supports 30W wired fast charging. For security, it comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. It also supports 5G, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, NFC, and USB 3.2 Type-C connectivity. The phone is IP68 rated for dust and water resistance and has a 3.5mm audio jack. The phone weighs 182 grams and measures 154mm x 68mm x 8.6mm.
