Southwest Air confirms removing part that may be fake

Southwest Airlines removed faulty parts from a jet engine on one of its planes after being notified by a supplier, making it the first major airline to publicly confirm that the parts are used on commercial aircraft.

Southwest Airlines said in an emailed statement on Friday that the airline’s supplier review found no “suspicious components” in the engines used in Boeing’s 737 NG. The parts — a pair of low-pressure turbine blades — were allegedly from AOG Technics and replaced out of an abundance of caution.

A representative for AOG could not immediately be reached for comment.
