SpaceX has applied to change its registration location from Delaware to Texas, according to public filings with SpaceX Texas Secretary of State.
This is the latest move by Elon Musk following a ruling from the Delaware Court of Chancery, which ordered Tesla Revoked options on the CEO’s 2018 compensation package, worth about $56 billion. Another Musk company, Neuralink, has also begun moving its registration location from Delaware to Nevada.
Following the court’s ruling, Musk expressed a strong desire to move his companies out of Delaware and encouraged other companies to do the same. He also promised that Tesla would hold a shareholder vote to get permission to move the company’s domicile to Texas.
“SpaceX has moved its registration from Delaware to Texas!” Musk wrote in a post Post on X Wednesday. “If your company is still registered in Delaware, I recommend moving to another state as soon as possible.”
Musk is expected to appeal his pay package to the Delaware Supreme Court. If the ruling stands, he will lose his option but not any shares he previously held.
Even before the ruling, Musk had left Delaware. After leading the $44 billion acquisition of Twitter in 2022, he renamed it X and moved the company’s domicile to Nevada.
SpaceX and Musk did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
